Best Sunset spots in Gozo
You get some of the best Sunsets and sunrises on Maltese islands. Some like to enjoy them on a beach, others on a cliff with a local Ftira and a glass of red.
Given that Gozo is a small island, we are lucky to get to experience Sunrise and sunset setting that appear on the Mediterranean horizon on the same day. Here is a list of the best 5 spots in Gozo malta for the best sunsets
Dwejra, Blue hole and azzure window
Possibly the most famous and the most photographed sunset place in Gozo.
This place is a photographer’s playground. You have multiple locations where you line your perfect shot.
There are multiple amazingly fantastic options
for the couple and families that want to experience sunset a bit more secluded with their loved ones.
Dwejra tower is one of these places where you get to see the sunset practically by yourself. Another fantastic option can be from on top of Dwejra Bay, where you can line the bay’s concave shape with the fungus rock and the sun setting.
One more gorgeous location has to be north of the blue hole, over the high cliffs above the inlet sea cave.
As you can see, you can get stunning photo sand experience sunsets from multiple angles from this incredible spot, Dwejra.
Mixta Cave
Mixta cave is one of our favorite sunset spots. This is one of the many reasons we do so many tours and excursions to this famous and yet still not visited Cave. Mixta Cave is facing west, and you get the best sunsets in June and July. The sun melts in the sea, and in the meantime, with the last golden rays, it will electrify Mixta cave with its mellow golden hew.
Xlendi
Xlendi Bay Gozo is a seaside village located on the southwest of the Island. This popular locality is regularly visited by tourists and Maltese alike, not least by the inhabitants themselves. Xlendi beach is small, but it is one of the best spots on the island. A short walk to the east of the beach, you can find the Xlendi Tower. Just next to the tower, there are some ancient still fictional saltpans. This is one of the best-hidden spots of Gozo. You are surrounded by yellow globigerina limestone, which will intensify in color with the late sunset glow. It is a must-do sunset spot and well worth the short hike.
Sanap, il- Pinur
Sanap is a powerful place where you can experience some of the best sunsets in the Maltese islands; no matter the time of year, Sanap cliffs have that captivating look of sheer white cliffs dropping straight down for hundreds of meters into deep blue seas white the sun melts in front of you in the distance. You can witness the cliffs changing color in front of you, from white to yellow to gentle gold to orange.
Sanap has a nice paved walk to a place called il-Pinur ( wind dial ). From here, you can see Xlendi bay and the cliffs of ta’ Cenc. It is a tranquil place where you can see the locals walk their dogs or a local shepherd with his sheep and odd goat practicing traversing ability on the numerous rubble walls.
Ras il-Wardija Punic tomb
You will need to make your way to Dhadira San Raflu, and from there, you walk along the small farmer’s path to the cape of Ras il-wardija.
An artificial cave in an upper cliff on the Ras il-Wardija, the extreme southwest corner of the island, was cut in Phoenician times as a religious sanctuary and dug by an Italian team in the 1960s. You get some incomparable views at this altitude, sunset setting leaving a direct hue of light in the Mediterranean sea while you can see the fungus rock in the distance.
Sunset from a Boat
Our personal favorite ha
s to be sunset from a boat. Given that Gozo and Malta are small islands, you can nip to either side quite quickly and literally follow the mellow rays of the sun while it sets gently in the Mediterranean blue sea. We get countless proposals and engagements on these trips given how romantic the sunset boat charters are. Click here for more info
Note- The sun sets at a slightly different time and places every day of the year. Click here and search the date to find out the time of sunset.
